OUR COMMUNITY BIKES

Project Description

Our Community Bikes (OCB) is a non-profit community bike shop in Vancouver’s Mount Pleasant neighbourhood. The lease on OCB’s current storefront is set to expire in the medium term and the organization contracted Hessey to complete a facility plan to support a future relocation. The facility plan was prepared with the intent of supporting the following:

  • Communicating to prospective landlords and funders about OCB including critical information about OCB’s mission, mandate, programs, and operations;
  • Exploring the context of a commercial leasehold relocation as it related directly to OCB’s needs in order to mitigate project risk; and
  • Creating a facility proposal to document the projected space requirements for a relocation based on current OCB space use.

About Our Community Bikes

Since 1993, Our Community Bikes (OCB) has operated a storefront along Vancouver’s Main Street. OCB promotes the use of bicycles as a healthy, affordable, and environmentally sound form of transportation. They offer education in mechanical skills to empower people and enable their access to community services and opportunities.

Project Goal: Work in collaboration with OCB to both build their local commercial real estate capacity and to develop and deliver a facility plan to be used as the foundation of the search for their next permanent location.
