VACFSS CHILD & FAMILY SERVICES RELOCATION
Project Description
The Vancouver Aboriginal Child & Family Services Society (VACFSS) engaged Hessey in 2020 after their lease was not renewed for their Child and Family Services office due to a landlord development project on the site. Hessey provided diverse services for this project over 18 months. We assisted in planning the relocation and provided project management services in the pre-design, design, construction, and occupancy phases of the project.
About VACFSS Child Protection & Family Services
VACFSS supports Indigenous youth and families in greater Vancouver by providing culturally grounded and restorative support services and resources. The VACFSS partners with families, caregivers, and communities to ensure the wellbeing of Indigenous children and families.
Project Goal: Provide comprehensive pre-design and project management services for the relocation of VACFSS’s Child and Family Services facility. The project had specialized cultural, organizational, and operational requirements, and was successfully delivered under a tight budget and schedule.
Hessey worked closely with the VACFSS on the relocation, from site selection and inspection all the way to the end stages of post-construction work. Some of the pre-design work involved advising and developing major options for sites, due diligence review, capital budgets, methods of delivering the relocation, and finalizing a functional program for the VACFSS Some of the project management work included full ‘owner’s rep’ duties, budgeting, scheduling, design-build team procurement, construction administration, payment certification, owner’s vendors and internal departments coordination, best practice review, change management activities, move management, project closeout and warranty support. Integrated into the work, we helped deliver significant cultural supports in the procurement, finishes, wayfinding and artwork, lighting, and mechanical systems in the new facility.
