In 2022, we joined the over 300 Certified B Corporations in Canada, and became the first certified architectural firm in British Columbia. B Corp Certification is awarded to businesses that meet high standards of verified social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. For Vancouver’s local artists, finding studio and exhibition spaces can be a challenge. The VMF Unleased project examines ways to transform underused commercial properties into temporary artist spaces, particularly for emerging and BIPOC artists.
VMAA works to promote and sustain the field of contemporary art jewellery. Hessey was engaged by VMAA to help plan a Metal Arts Hub as a regional centre intended to support the growth, sustainability, and vibrancy of artisan-scale metal arts practices.
Hessey and CIRES are aligned and often key partners in the development and delivery of innovative programs that serve to create local equity. These programs are typically directed at community-serving organizations and support their ability to achieve secure commercial space tenure.
